Meeting students where they are.

Every meeting reviews the student’s academic and extracurricular profile, and the focus changes by grade. The goal is age-appropriate guidance and clear next steps, without creating pressure too early.

Before a Profile Review

Four things, sent ahead of the meeting, so the hour is spent on the student rather than on catching up.
  • A current transcript, including courses the student is taking or plans to take
  • A list of activities, awards, athletics, leadership, service, work, arts, hobbies, family responsibilities, and other meaningful ways the student spends their time
  • Two writing samples from an English or humanities class the student feels proud of
  • Any available testing, including SAT, ACT, AP, or IB scores
When applicable, families may also share an IEP, 504 Plan, or neuropsychological evaluation so that we can better understand how the student learns.
Together, these materials allow me to look at the student as a whole: how they appear on paper, what their academic trajectory looks like, what matters to them, and what their voice sounds like.

What you leave with

Your family will leave with questions answered and a clear sense of direction. Depending on when we meet, that might mean a plan for the coming year or a multi-year strategy leading into the application process.

The goal is not to prescribe a perfect path, but to help the student make intentional choices about what comes next.

Where they started, and where they landed

Taking the chance on Cornell

Where he started

The son of immigrants, he grew up in Tennessee and came to us by referral, looking only at schools in Tennessee and Virginia. Much of his time outside school went to caring for his younger brother and working at his family’s restaurant.

What he built

We started working together in the summer. He was an exceptional student with a real story to tell. A relative in the Boston area had loved her time at Cornell, and when his scores came in, we encouraged him to apply there. He didn’t think he had a chance, but he took it.

Where he landed

Cornell University, where he is now happily in his second year.

The dream school called in August

Where she started

We began working together in 9th grade, when she was very worried about the college process. From the start, her dream school was Georgetown.

What she built

We helped her stay on track, and stay mindful of every difficult thing she was facing and overcoming. By senior year she was a tremendous candidate, with options including USC and Villanova.

Where she landed

She committed early to USC, then was admitted to UCLA and chose UCLA instead, while staying on the Georgetown waitlist. In early August, Georgetown took her off the waitlist. She is so happy there now.

Questions families ask

Who is a Profile Review Meeting for?

High school students and their families, any time from ninth through twelfth grade. The focus shifts with the student’s grade and goals.

Do we need to start with a First Inquiry Meeting?

No. The First Inquiry Meeting is a short conversation with Christine for families who want to talk through goals and options first. If you’re ready for a full review, book the one-hour Profile Review directly.

What should we submit before the meeting?

A transcript and course plan, a list of activities and experiences, two recent writing samples, any test scores, and, when applicable, an IEP, 504 Plan, or neuropsychological evaluation.

Do we need to already have a college list?

No. Younger students aren’t expected to have one. For juniors and seniors, the meeting often helps clarify and strengthen the list.

What will we leave the meeting with?

A clearer understanding of where the student stands and a practical roadmap. Depending on grade, that may cover academics, activities, testing, visits, essays, financial aid, or application strategy.

Is this a one-time meeting or something we can do every year?

Either. Many families use it as an annual check-in: understanding in ninth grade, exploration in tenth, preparation in eleventh, and execution in twelfth.
