Discover where your child stands

Meeting students where they are.

Every meeting includes a review of the student’s academic record, interests, and activities. The focus shifts with the student’s age and the point of entry. A ten-year-old exploring middle school options needs a very different conversation than a high school senior weighing a postgraduate year. The goal is to give families clear, age-appropriate guidance without placing too much pressure on a young student.

Christine Chapman-Fierz

Where is your child right now?

Middle school to discover. Ninth grade to choose. Upper school to reset. A postgraduate year to bridge.

Pick a stage to see what that review covers.

Before we meet

Before a Profile Review, I ask families to provide:
  • Report cards or transcripts from the past two years, plus current-year grades
  • Teacher comments or narrative reports, if the school provides them
  • A list of activities, interests, athletics, arts, service, and other meaningful ways the student spends their time
  • One or two writing samples the student feels proud of
  • Any available testing, including the SSAT, ISEE, or school-administered assessments
  • For postgraduate candidates, a college plan and any athletic recruiting information
When applicable, families may also share an IEP, 504 Plan, or neuropsychological evaluation so that I can better understand how the student learns.
Together, these materials allow me to look at the student as a whole: how they learn, how they appear on paper, what matters to them, and what kind of school would help them thrive.

What you leave with

Questions answered and concerns alleviated, your family will leave the Profile Review Meeting with a clear sense of purpose and direction. Depending on when we meet, that might mean a list of schools to visit, a testing and interview plan, or a full timeline through the application season.

The goal is not to find the most prestigious school, but to help your family find the school where your child will flourish.

Where they started, and where they landed

From “maybe not” to her first-choice school

Where she started

She began looking at private high schools because her older sister had gone. When we first met, she wasn’t sure she wanted to go at all.

What she built

We started with a long list and pared it down, school by school, until only the places that fit her were left. Along the way, the choice became hers instead of her sister’s.

Where she landed

Admitted to her top school. She has just started there as a freshman.

Knowing he needed one more year

Where he started

As a rising senior, he was doing everything a college applicant is supposed to do. His heart wasn’t in it.

What he built

Early in senior year, he said it out loud: he wasn’t ready for college yet. He wanted a step in between. Together we found a postgraduate year that fit him.

Where he landed

Happily settled at a boarding school, growing into the student he wants to be when college comes.

Two ways to begin

Families can start with either meeting. Neither is required before the other, so choose the one that fits where you are.

Questions families ask

Who is a Private School Profile Review for?

Families considering independent day or boarding schools for any entry point from fifth grade through a postgraduate year. Families may be just starting to explore or already have a list in mind.

Do we need to start with a First Inquiry Meeting?

No. The First Inquiry Meeting is a short conversation with Christine for families who want to talk through goals and options first. If you’re ready for a full review, book the one-hour Profile Review directly.

What should we submit before the meeting?

Recent report cards or transcripts, teacher comments if available, a list of activities and interests, one or two writing samples, and any testing such as the SSAT or ISEE. When applicable, an IEP, 504 Plan, or neuropsychological evaluation.

Do we need a school list already?

No. Many families come to us before they know which schools to consider. We can discuss schools already on your radar while identifying the kinds of communities that would suit your child.

Should my child take the SSAT or ISEE before we meet?

Not necessarily. Part of the meeting is deciding which test fits the schools you’re considering and when it makes sense to take it.

Day school or boarding school?

This is one of the most common questions we hear, and the answer depends on the child. We talk through independence, family logistics, academic needs, and what each setting offers.

What will we leave the meeting with?

A clearer understanding of where your child stands, the kinds of schools that fit, and specific next steps on testing, visits, interviews, and applications.
